Synastry
Synastry house overlays
Beyond the contacts between two charts, synastry looks at where one person's planets fall among the other's houses. A Venus in your partner's seventh house is a different subject from a Venus in their eighth: the planet says what is brought, the house says where in life it lands. These readings are written for both people, and for any two people.
In the other person's 1st house
How the other meets the world
- Sun in the 1st house
- Who one of you is lands on how the other meets the world, so the other may feel noticed at once, and at times a little outshone.
- Moon in the 1st house
- How one of you feels lands on how the other meets the world, so the other can pick up those moods at a glance and may soften in response.
- Venus in the 1st house
- What one of you enjoys lands on how the other meets the world, so the other's look and manner can simply please, and warmth often comes early.
- Mars in the 1st house
- What drives one of you lands on how the other meets the world, so the other can feel spurred on or pushed, and sparks may fly either way.
In the other person's 5th house
Fun, romance and play
- Sun in the 5th house
- Who one of you is lights up the other's sense of fun and romance, and if there is attraction between you, the other may find it hard to look away.
- Moon in the 5th house
- How one of you feels meets the other's sense of fun and romance, so play comes easily, and if there is attraction between you, it can feel tender as well as warm.
- Venus in the 5th house
- What one of you enjoys meets the other's sense of fun and romance, so time together can feel like a treat, and if there is attraction between you, flirting may come easily.
- Mars in the 5th house
- What drives one of you stirs the other's sense of fun and romance, so play can turn competitive, and if there is attraction between you, desire can run hot and fast.
In the other person's 7th house

- Max and Augusta Foss Heindel, The Message of the Stars, 3rd ed. (Oceanside, Calif.: Rosicrucian Fellowship, 1918), "Planetary Polarities", pp. 538–539 read it
- Mars in the 7th house
- What drives one of you falls where the other looks for a partner: a placing tradition reads as one that can strain the harmony between you.

In the other person's 8th house
Trust, shared money and endings
- Sun in the 8th house
- Who one of you is reaches the other's most private ground of trust, shared money and endings, and if there is attraction between you, it can run deep and feel intense.
- Moon in the 8th house
- How one of you feels reaches the other's most private ground of trust, shared money and endings, so moods run deep, and if there is attraction between you, closeness can feel raw.
- Venus in the 8th house
- What one of you enjoys reaches the other's most private ground of trust, shared money and endings, and if there is attraction between you, the sexual pull can be strong.
- Mars in the 8th house
- What drives one of you reaches the other's most private ground of trust, shared money and endings, so power can be at stake, and if there is attraction between you, sex can be intense.
None of this is a verdict. A single placement never describes a whole relationship, and astrology is a tradition of interpretation rather than a body of established fact. Only four planets and four houses are covered so far.
